|
| Active tags |
Tags that have on-board power. |
| Attenuation |
Distortion of a radio signal due to proximity to metal, body or material affects. |
| 'Buddy' Tags |
Personnel tags that are associated with an asset tag in the Aspects™ software. |
| Collision |
When too many tags appear in the field the message from one tag collides with another and invalidates both messages. |
| Data Bus |
A hard-wired connection relaying data to the control software normally either in RS 232 or RS 485 format. |
| Field/field of detection |
The radio area around a sensor that collects tag messages. |
| High Frequency |
Radio frequency systems that communicate in the 13.56 MHz frequencies and higher. |
| Passive tags |
Tags that do not carry on-board power - typically these tags are energised by an electromagnetic field. |
| Pick Rate |
The amount of tags a sensor will recognise within a certain timeframe. |
| Portable Assets |
Mobile assets, such as laptop computers. |
| Read Only |
Tags that do not have on-board memory. They only send messages to a sensor and cannot receive and store messages from a sensor. |
| Read Range |
The distance from which a sensor can reliably collect tag messages. |
| Read/Write |
Tags that do have on-board memory. Sensors or hand-held units may be used to send data to the tag to be stored and retrieved at a later date. |
| Repeaters |
A wireless radio receiver unit that sends the incoming data traffic from tags onto either a radio receiver (sensor) or another repeater and not on the hardwire RS 232/485 data bus. |
| RFID |
Radio frequency identification. |
| Sensor or Reader |
A radio frequency receiver unit that collects encrypted messages from tags, decrypts them, and then sends them to the management software either on a hard-wired data bus or via a network of radio frequency repeaters. |
| Static Assets |
Equipment that is not expected to move, or to move substantially. |
